Guessing at [Deep Throat's] identity became a Washington parlor game and has been the subject of books, academic studies and, in testament to its enduring mystery, even chatter on the Internet, which existed only in imagination in the Watergate era.
They even chattered about it on the Internet? Good God, then you know it must be hot stuff.

As a side note, listening to old, gray newspeople and politicians say "Deep Throat" never gets old. If I ever have a blockbuster confidential source, I'm going to refer to him or her as "Poopoo-undies."
